Started as a single faculty of Arts in 1971, Radhamadhab College was granted affiliation first by Gauhati University in 1971 for the award of degree of Bachelor of Arts. The Government of Assam granted the College grants in aid status in 1983. The college is now affiliated to Assam University, Silchar (A Central University), Silchar. The college also got its registration in 1983 under Registration of Societies Act of 1860.

Radhamadhab College is the first college from Southern Assam and first among the affiliated colleges under Assam University to be accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Executive Committee of the NAAC on the recommendation of the duly appointed Peer Team declared the college accredited for 5 years from 2004 at the C+ level and the College is now ready for re-accreditation.
